SAIL-ELA Update!
Hello Everyone,
This week I met with all of my SAIl-ELA groups. We discussed what this year will look like and the projects we'll be doing together. We also discussed Odyssey of the Mind. So many students are interested in being on an OM team which is so exciting! We will be competing in the classics. The problem synopses: Ancient Greek Poet Homer created The Iliad, which tells the story of Achilles and the Trojan War. Now, OM teams will put their spin on the popular concept of the "Trojan Horse" by creating one of their own. It will be used to get past a wall in a performance that also includes a character from The Iliad, an original Greek Chorus, and an unusual statue.
Odyssey of the Mind (OM™) teaches students how to develop and use their natural creativity to become problem-solvers. Imagine being faced with a problem that requires an original solution. It can be frightening. Now imagine not being afraid to solve that problem – that is what OM members learn. This skill and self-confidence will carry over to all areas of their lives. OM brings the classroom to life as students apply what they know and combine it with their interests and passions to solve our unique open-ended problems. OM also emphasizes teamwork, budgeting, time management, public speaking, and so much more. This international program is designed to help students at all learning levels grow as individual learners, grow as team members, and to reach their full potential.
Participating in this does require another level of commitment. Students may need to miss an additional WIN period and stay after school from time to time to work on this project. The competition is on Saturday, March 25th, at Noble High School. Parents with students that indicated an interest in participating will receive an email from me with additional information, and a consent to participate form will need to be signed.
